Retaining Wall Installation

Retaining walls are a great way to enhance both the look and function of your landscaping project.  Commonly used as a solution for sloping and uneven terrain, retaining walls allow you to carve out functional outdoor spaces from sloping properties to create garden areas, sections of lawn, patios and more.

Whether you’re building a retaining wall for structural or aesthetic reasons, your wall can serve many purposes including:

  • Reduce soil erosion

  • Create a level functional area on your property

  • Create terraced levels and/or raised garden beds

  • Create a feature or add definition and aesthetic appeal to your property

There is little margin for error when building a retaining wall that is designed to hold back tons of soil and earth.  We construct our walls from a variety of building materials, to enhance your landscape design and increase curb appeal.  With many years of experience implementing retaining wall solutions in sloped properties in Southern Ontario, we would be pleased to meet with you to discuss your project.

Foundations

The dimensions of footings also depend on the size and type of structure that will be built. Placement of footings is crucial to provide the proper support for the foundation and ultimately the structure.

Concrete footings may also be needed for projects such as a deck, pergola, retaining wall or other types of construction.

Foundation and Footing Trenches

The primary purpose of foundations and footings is to provide the necessary support for floors, walls, brick fences or concrete slabs. The process of preparing footings or foundations only takes one to two days to complete. Our footing and foundation preparation service is exceptional as we ensure a safe, sound, and secure project. Your satisfaction is a priority, and so we treat every project given to us as if it was our own home.

Footings are an important part of foundation construction. They are typically made of concrete with rebar reinforcement that has been poured into an excavated trench. The purpose of footings is to support the foundation and prevent settling. Footings are especially important in areas with troublesome soils.

The construction of footings is best left to the pros that can assess the soil conditions and decide on the proper depth and width for the footings as well as the proper placement.

Gravel Driveway Installation

Gravel Driveway Installation

When building a new home on newly cleared land, a gravel driveway is a good option to replace the muddy dirt road that existed before. Gravel driveways are perfect for new constructions and new properties in rural areas.

A long-lasting driveway to enhance the aesthetics of your property is just around the corner. With so many colors and aggregate materials available to us, the possibilities of creating a unique driveway are endless.

Our gravel driveways installations ensure a consistent surface, drainage and our end results are guaranteed. Although our process may vary based on terrain, grading requirements and aggregate used, our process will ensure your driveway is completed right and on time.

As part of our process, we will make a plan for driving heavy equipment, worker parking, storing earth that’s moved during excavation, and keeping building materials staged. We may need to create a temporary driveway and a place to store equipment.

Pool Excavation

The excess dirt from a pool excavation is typically all removed and new material is brought in for backfill unless the elevation of the backyard is on a slope.

Pool Excavations

Faris Construction has the necessary equipment and expertise to perform any size swimming pool excavation. We will meet with you, review the plans, make sure that all necessary companies are contacted for obstructions and utilities, and ensure local building codes are met prior to excavation. We will also review all manufacturer layouts and dig specifications.

It is important to make sure that there is adequate access to complete the task. We will usually need a minimum of 8 ft. wide open space to get an excavator into the back yard. More than 8 ft is helpful. We will also need to clear a vertical space … no hanging tree branches or wires in the way. These are things that our team will look for when reviewing the site prior to completing your proposal. We have our own dump trucks to remove excess dirt from the site when it is necessary.

Site Prep

them in the right direction. Pulling tree stumps, roots and rocks is back-breaking work; hire an excavator team with heavy machinery to do that.

You may think you know what’s under your property. However, we will make sure it contains no underground utility lines, like gas or electrical.  We won’t start digging until the area is surveyed and any utilities are marked.

After we clear the site and before we begin excavation, we will install a silt fence for erosion control. This tightly woven mesh-fabric fence is supported by wooden or metal stakes and is installed along a contour line on your property to help prevent erosion.

Building Site Preparation

Preparing building sites for construction is a big area of work or Faris Construction.  Our modern fleet of equipment and experienced employees enables us to take on a very wide range of projects.  Faris Construction provides the knowledge and equipment to take care of any excavation project, small or large.

An experienced and local excavating crew is essential for site prep. Our crews are local so we don’t need to transport heavy equipment far, and we know the local terrain and disposal yards.

Starting with a roughly staked-out site, an excavator team begins by moving large loads to strategic locations. We will use much of the soil later as backfill around the foundation or for landscape features. We will also lay out the four corners of the build with precision for location and elevation. Using machine-mounted laser levels, we will dig exactly to the correct depth and location so you can begin your build with confidence.

We will begin your site preparation by clearing the property of trees, roots and rocks. Felling trees is mostly easy work with a chain saw, plus careful planning to safely drop
